Earth Federation

Though the Federation has launched a massive arms buildup to restore its ravaged fleet, the ships and mobile suits it's produced are essentially identical to those of the One Year War. Only the very newest additions to the Federation mobile suit roster, the high-performance RGM-79N GM Custom and the beam cannon-equipped RGC-83 GM Cannon, represent an improvement over the One Year War state of the art.

Similarly, the ships of the rebuilt Federal Forces fleet - including the brand-new flagship Birmingham - still aren't designed to carry mobile suits. The one exception is the MSC-07 Albion, the mothballed seventh ship of the Pegasus class, which was completed as part of the arms buildup.

However, as part of its military reconstruction, the Federation has launched a top-secret mobile suit development program. This Gundam Development Project is entrusted to a high-tech manufacturing company called Anaheim Electronics. In UC 0083, Anaheim's efforts bear fruit with the rollout of the general-purpose RX-78GP01 "Zephyranthes," the nuclear-capable RX-78GP02A "Physalis," and the huge mobile weapon RX-78GP03 "Dendrobium."

In addition to superb performance, each of these Gundams has its own unique features. The Zephyranthes has a Core Block System, and can be outfitted with "Full Vernian" parts for space use. The Physalis carries a tactical nuclear warhead for its atomic bazooka, and its heavy armor and shield-mounted cooling systems enable it to survive the resulting blast unscathed. The Dendrobium is a two-part weapons system, consisting of an immense booster system and weapons container called the "Orchis," and a normal-sized mobile suit called the "Dendrobium Stamen." The Stamen is equipped with a panoramic cockpit display much like that of the RX-78NT1 "Alex."

While the original Gundam was designed as a prototype for a mass-produced mobile suit, the mobile suits created for the Gundam Development Project are strictly experimental. It turns out that the Federation has limited patience for budget-sucking research projects, as a planned fourth member of the family is canceled before its completion. With the deletion of all records pertaining to the project in UC 0084, the Gundam Development Project and all its products are officially erased.

Incidentally, during the ending credits of the final episode you'll glimpse the RGM-79Q GM Quell, a development of the GM Custom created expressly for use by the newly-formed Titans. Its black-and-blue color scheme foreshadows that of the Gundam Mark II introduced in Z Gundam.

Delaz Fleet

The Delaz Fleet's mobile suit forces primarily consist of the MS-06F2 Zaku II and MS-09RII Rick Dom II, variants introduced at the very end of the war. Cima Garahau's brigand crew use another One Year War-vintage model, the MS-14F Gelgoog Marine. The Delaz Fleet's sole original design is the MS-21C Dra-C, a weird hybrid of a Zaku and a Gattle space fighter produced in small quantities at Delaz's Garden of Thorns.

The ships of the Delaz Fleet are wartime souvenirs, too. The Musai seen in this series has been slightly upgraded, with room for one extra mobile suit and crude launch catapults. The Delaz Fleet has about 15 such cruisers, led by the Gwazin-class battleship Gwaden and supported by roughly 20 Papua- and Pazock-class support ships. Cima's private fleet consists of 7 Musai-class cruisers, commanded by the Zanzibar-class "Lili Marlene."

The renegade Zeon Dukedom forces allied with the Delaz Fleet also use One Year War leftovers - the MS-06F2, the MS-09F/trop Dom Tropen, and the curious YMS-16M Xamel, a prototype artillery mobile suit whose main cannon has a firing range of 50 kilometers. Meanwhile, former Dukedom soldier Kelley Layzner has stashed away the mobile armor MA-06 Val Varo, a curious fusion of all the original series' various mobile armors.

The Delaz Fleet also obtains a more recent mobile suit, the AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra. Delivered to Cima by Anaheim Electronics, this booster-laden mobile suit is in fact the canceled fourth unit of the Gundam Development Project. With the withdrawal of Federation funding, Anaheim's engineers completed the mobile suit in a Zeon-esque style that reflects their One Year War employment history.

Axis

Though the mysterious group of Dukedom loyalists holed up at the asteroid base Axis don't directly involve themselves in the Delaz Fleet's military operation, they do lend one rather vital prop to ace pilot Anavel Gato - the exotic AMA-X2 Neue Ziel. This lethal mobile armor, with its immense speed, battery of beam cannons and missiles, and beam-deflecting I-field barrier, enables Gato to singlehandedly hold off the Federation's pursuit fleet during the last phase of Operation Stardust.

The flagship of the Axis Advance Fleet sent to aid the Delaz Fleet is the Gwanban-class battleship Gwanzan, sibling of the eponymous Gwanban seen in Z Gundam and Gundam ZZ. It is accompanied by 8 Musai-class cruisers and 10 supply ships.
